When it comes to sound waves, there are three different ways to fundamentally break it down. The three archetypes of sound waves are mechanical, longitudinal, and pressure.

Mechanical: The back and forth vibration of the particles stemming from the source object.

Longitudinal: The wave characterized by the particles moving which are parallel to the original vibration.

Pressure: The repeating pattern of high and low pressure regions moving through a medium(air).

Hertz is a unit of measurement used for frequency.

Frequency is how often an occurrence happens relating to sound waves in a song.

1 hertz means that there is one sound wave per second. 1000 means there are that many repeating waves in a second.

It is important for me to understand these things because as a musician, It’s important for me to understand the technicalities of what I’m creating. I like to be well educated. But understanding what it is that I’m making on a basic level, allows me to be that much closer to it.
